Fundraiser to benefit Lutheran students at the University Ankatso in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar The First English Youth are organizing a campaign to raise money for students at the University Ankatso in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Donate today via a check made out to FELC, memo: Madagascar Chaplaincy Fund, through Vanco giving linked on our website. Please contact Kris if you have questions. Thank you. Chaplain Norolala, a Luther Seminary graduate and friend of Kris Kincaid recently asked if our congregation might have money to make donations to the students she serves. "For 2 years now, after the Covid-19, life has become hard in Madagascar. Last year again we faced dryness that causes famine. This year, a flood was coming because of the very strong cyclone (we had four different cyclones this year and one was very hard) destroying many things like plants, houses, roads in my country. The war between Russia and Ukraine impacts the economy of Madagascar as well. All these bad things decrease the possibility of each family to survive, and most of us cry for the cost of life." Happy 122nd Anniversary to FELC!
The history of First English Lutheran Church began on May 7, 1900, when a small group of Lutherans desiring services in the English language, voted to organize. (Prior to this, St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church was the only Lutheran church in Cannon Falls, and they worshipped using the Swedish language as late as 1927.)
On June 17, 1900, a constitution was adopted and the first pastor was Rev. M.E. Boulton.
On December 15, 1901, a committee was selected to find and solicit funding for a church building.
By May 7, 1905, a new church building was dedicated on our current site.
